Four facebook changes in 2015


Facebook announced about some changes in their general rules from the first of january 2015, where members  receiving a message about the general rules and privacy policy changes after updating.

Zabena Petrie (german lawyer and activist in the field of consumer rights) explained that through these adjustements, facebook allow itself to collect and exploit all users informations, and even if the users not refuse about some points,  its important to users know what will happen with their data.

Ulrich Kelber (from the federal ministry of consumer protection) also said there are advantages and disadvantages in the facebook proposed changes in the data policy, and welcomed the great efforts for more transparency and clear answers about privacy rules and data protection in the new version of facebook.

and now let's know more about these changes :

1- Privacy : this new changes will make the process of identifying the other members on the internet who can see the user activity much easier.
Zabena Petrie confirmed that the user must be active here, where he should stop the new functions if he refuse them. however, the user must know that facebook can access to all data and analysis in spite of all privacy and security setting was tuned.

2- Location Data : facebook explained that the location data could be associated in the future with friends user and the ads that appear to them, if the user share his own location data, he may receive informations about restaurants close to him and also information about friends near to his area.
if the user does not wish to take advantage of such functions, he must prevent the facebook application to access GPS in his smartphone.

3-Ads : facebook aims through this changes to  show the ads tailored to the needs and requirements of the user for more accurately and effectively. in the past the contents of the advertisements were direved from the "like" button data and other activities on the social network. but soon will be direved from the visited websites and used applications.
also facebook explained that they can sometimes track user activities after login in, for example if he want buy computer from the internet . he will see ads about computers. and in the future, facebook members will be able to evaluate the ads in terms of their suitability and relevance, in addition that the user be able to show the target group, and why he see just a specific ads.

Ulrich Kelber said that the new ads settings give the user more control, but facebook will get more information about the ads, so the new settings do not represent a good benefit for the user.

4- New Functions : facebook want to build a very close relationship with their customers through the addition of new function such as "buy" button , which allows the users to purchase products and services across a facebook account directly, so the US company can identify the habits of shopping and purchase, and details about payments data.

Zabena Petrie say " from the perspective of consumer protection, it can evaluate these functions as CRITICAL. it is through the collection of data, facebook can create a profile for the entire user. and if the user use facebook from the first of january, that mean the user approve the new guidelines automatically. and all you can to do if you refuse these changes, is to stop using the biggest social network in the planet.
